“Daddy?” Derek looked over his shoulder to see two of his little girls standing in the doorway of his bedroom. He smiled and motioned for them to come in.

“What’s up girls?” He took off his reading glasses and set them on his desk.

“Well…uhm,” KaCee started, “we were, uhm, Olivia wants to ask you something.” She pushed her sister in front of her. Olivia was sucking her thumb nervously (a habit she had still yet to break) and looked up at Derek whose face held a confused look.

“Daddy? Where do babies come from?” Olivia looked up at him with wide curious brown eyes. Derek’s face froze. Weren’t they too young to ask about this? Didn’t they start asking when they were older, better yet, already out of the house?

“Well, you see, there’s this uh…stork bird thing that-uh,” Derek stammered, unsure of how to answer this.

KaCee glared at him, “Jimmy from school told me the stork story wasn’t true!” Derek bit his lip to keep from swearing and mentally cursed “Jimmy from school.” 

“Give me a moment girls.” Derek smiled at them and went over to the door and yelled,

“Logan! Julian! Get up here! I need your help!” 

There was footsteps thundering up the stairs and soon Logan and Julian appeared who was holding Rina in his arms.

“What’s wrong?” Logan asked furrowing his eyebrows.

“Well, you see…Olivia ask Uncle Logan and Uncle Julian your question.” Olivia repeated the question.

“I mean, I was going to say…it’s kinda like a math problem. Like, 1+1=3?” Derek whispered into their ears. The two men gave him an ‘are you kidding me?’ look.

“What? Too straightforward?” Julian rolled his eyes while Logan groaned.

“Did you try the stork story?” Julian whispered back feeling the impatient glares of the two girls.

“Some guy named Jimmy ruined it,” Derek grumbled. They both looked at Logan.
“What? Me? No way…I…fine,” Logan walked over to the  two girls and sat down on Derek’s chair. He threw Derek and Julian one more glare as he started his story.

“You see, before there are babies, there is a mommy and a daddy. The mommies and daddies love each other very, very much. When a mommy and daddy want a baby, they… uh, sit together and think about the love they have for each other really, really hard.” Derek coughed. “And the mommies and daddies love for each other meets together and forms a baby. And that’s where babies come from.The end.”

Derek and Julian clapped and Rina mimicked them and giggled. Kacee was still thinking really hard.

 ”How does the love meet together? Is there some kind of love meeting tube?” 

“Okay! Well that’s enough questions for today! Anyway, you guys need to start getting ready for bed!” Derek said way to cheerfully as he clapped his hands together.

“But-“

“I-“

Julian ushered them out of the room and Derek flopped down on his bed and let out a sigh of relief.

“Thanks, I really owe you there, buddy.”

Logan snorted and then considered the offer, “You know, I could use a new bed.”

Derek grabbed a pillow, flung it at him and laughed, “Get out of here!”

“Sure, sure,” Logan chuckled leaving his room.
